The Letter of Paul to the Church in Corinth
Introduction
Address and Greetings, Thanksgiving
Thanking always on your behalf for the grace of God given you by Jesus Christ. God is faithful by whom you are called into the fellowship of his son Jesus Christ our Lord.
Divisions and Scandals
A. Factions in the Corinth Church
Dissentions Among the Faithful
By the name of our Lord Jesus Christ there should be no divisions among you. That you should speak the same things and be perfectly joined together in the same mind and the same judgement.
True Wisdom and The False
Paul was sent to preach the Gospel. Not with the wisdom of words or the cross would be rendered of no effect. The preaching of the cross is to the unbeliever (them that perish) foolishness but to those who are saved it is the Power of God. For it is written, “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent”.
The Jews require a sign, The Greeks seek after wisdom. But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumbling block, unto the Greeks foolishness. But to those who are called both Jews and Greeks, Christ the Power of God and the Wisdom of God.
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. But to we who are in Christ Jesus, God has given to us wisdom and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption.
Your faith should not stand in the wisdom of man but in the Power of God.
We speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. The natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness to him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned. And he that is spiritual can judge all things, but he himself is judged by no man.
The Place of the Christian Preacher
A seed of the Gospel is Planted, the seed is watered but only God can give the increase. Every man will receive his own reward according to his own labor. Every man’s work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man’s work of what sort it is.
Conclusion
Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness. And again, The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain. Therefore, let no man glory in men. For all things are yours; And you are Christ’s; and Christ is God’s.
An Appeal
Judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God. The kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
Incest in Corinth
It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you, and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one should have his father’s wife. Deliver such a one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus. A little leaven will leaven the whole lump. Purge out therefore the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened
Do not keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolator, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such a one no not to eat. Those without God judge. Therefore, put away from among yourselves that wicked person.
C. Recourse to the Gentile Courts
Dare any of you, having a matter against another, go to law before the unjust, and not before the saints? But brother goes to law with brother, and that before the unbelievers. Now therefore there is utterly a fault among you, because you go to law one with another. Why do you not rather take wrong? why do you not rather suffer yourselves to be defrauded? Don’t you know that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? And such were some of you: but you are washed, but you are sanctified, but you are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
D. Sexual Immorality
Meats for the belly, and the belly for meats: but God shall destroy both it and them. Now the body is not for fornication, but for the Lord, and the Lord for the body. And God hath both raised up the Lord and will also raise up us by his own power. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that commits fornication sins against his own body. For ye are bought with a price: therefore, glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Only portions of the scripture are represented in the written summaries however, the narration on the video includes the books in their entirety.
