I saw a speaker who was talking about how dreams are messages from God during our sleep. Sometimes what we see as nightmares are calls to prayer. Dreams as messages can be warnings about what is to come. Even when we do not remember we dream every single night. Imagine your life if you could hear God perfectly and clearly…
Dreams As Messages
Visions or Dreams
Dreams As Messages
Numbers 12:6 (KJV)
And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
The Subconscious Mind
Our dreams are a result of the subconscious mind. All the barriers are down. Our reasoning, our pride, our self defenses, our fears are all suppressed in our dream state. We go directly to the truth of things. All those sounds from our conscious mind have been silenced, no stress, no worry, no schedules taking over the noise. Directly to truth…
Is The Dream From God?
So how do we know if a dream is coming from God? Obviously not all dreams are communications from God. There is the process of natural dreaming that goes on every night. Sometimes we remember them but most of the time we do not. However, God wants you to know when he is communicating with you. He will send you subtle supernatural signs, or forms of symbolism to let you know that he is speaking. He might show you something that you should not or would not know. The confirmation may be something simple for example after the dream you see or hear a message that was part of the dream. Maybe you see something, the same thing over and over again out in the world. God wants you to know the message is from him. He speaks to your heart.
The Confirmation
God can speak to us in dreams but he also will speak to us in other ways. So when the dream aligns with his other methods of communication it can be a confirmation. Have you ever heard a Christian message from say a radio preacher, then the next message you saw from a televangelist pastor was the same message. Finally you went to church that week and guess what the same message again. You asked yourself what do they do call each other up and decide what the messages will be? Obviously they do not because they are coming from different places. You also realize that these messages are relating to something in your life, a question or a problem you have been considering. Then you have a dream which guides you to an answer. That could be a confirmation of God speaking to you and guiding you within a dream. Though your confirmation comes before the dream it still demonstrates a supernatural element.
Acts 2:17 (KJV)
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Prophetic Dreaming
Dreams As Messages
Reflects Who God Is
Dreams as messages will always reflect who God is, it will have his tone and his heart. The dream will speak to you like scripture or like Jesus taught us. It will never reflect that which is contrary to God’s teaching or law. It will lead you to an understanding. Lead you to peace and the fruit of the Holy Spirit. He is using dreams as messages…
If we dream something that seems to have more authority than our usual dreams we should consult scripture. If the dream is vivid in our mind it may be a sign that there was something important or prophetic about it.
Scripture The Authority
Though the Bible speaks of dreams becoming more prevalent in end times the main method of God’s communication with man is always scripture. So never give a dream more authority than the Bible. Most of the dreams as messages in the Bible occur in the Old Testament. These communications were a direct pathway to Gods message. This occurred before Jesus came to earth and before the Holy Spirit descended. But even now there are reasons God will communicate with us through dreams as messages. There may be a message to guide a situation or a warning about something that is to come. Whatever the reason if you suspect dreams as messages you should consult scripture about the subject of the dream for further enlightenment.
The Exception Not The Rule
Dreams as messages are the exception rather than the rule. Most of our dreams are normal dreaming. But having dreams as messages does show us that God is alive and speaking with us personally. It has been suggested that this happens because he has not been able to reach us adequately through scripture.
Dreams in Darkness
Dreams As Messages
25 I have heard what the prophets said, that prophesy lies in my name, saying, I have dreamed, I have dreamed. 26 How long shall this be in the heart of the prophets that prophesy lies? yea, they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart; 27 Which think to cause my people to forget my name by their dreams which they tell every man to his neighbour, as their fathers have forgotten my name for Baal.
Beware False Interpretations
But do not too easily accept dreams as prophetic messages from God. The enemy is also a dark spirit with access to your dreams. He is a deceiver and will try to influence you also in your dreams. An obsession with dreams as messages could lead someone to false interpretations or dark spirit interests. That is why it is so important to consult scripture on the basis of any suspicion of dreams as messages.
In the old testament God warns us in scripture about false teachings based in prophesies found in dreams. A tool of the enemy and his disciples to move us away from God’s scripture. In the old testament God spoke to the Israelites warning of false prophets and warning of their lies based on dreams.
The Dark Dreaming
The enemy uses dreams in several ways as well. Most commonly demonic visitation and dark dreams. These types are easy to determine because of the lingering feelings of fear, apprehension and evil presence. However, the dreams that are questionable are those when the enemy is acting as a false prophet and appearing as a being of light. It becomes important to engage in discernment of spirits being aware of how the evil spirit represents himself as a being of light.
Heed The Warnings
Dreams As Messages
Dreams as Warnings
In the Bible God has used warning dreams as messages to protect us. The warnings were used to provide directions for a course of action. Once the recommendations have been followed the dream and the feelings associated with it are forgotten. Some warning dreams can result from our own internal emotions and struggles. The dreams can bring these issues to our attention and give us direction to eliminate the struggles through God’s instruction.
Use God’s Wisdom
So the answer lies with letting scripture interpret the dreams. If you are experiencing dreams as messages you must discern the meaning using God’s wisdom. If you have strong emotions which remain with you after you wake up, be cautious. Pay close attention to the content of the message. Be aware that the emotion can disrupt or confuse your interpretation. This could be a warning. It’s very important to keep clarity. It could also be a deception. Move cautiously through the interpretation of the dream with the Holy Spirit. Pray about all the elements one at a time with patience. Closely examine each layer exploring each aspect with prayer.
Job 33:14-18 KJV
14 For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not. 15 In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed; 16 Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction, 17 That he may withdraw man from his purpose, and hide pride from man. 18 He keepeth back his soul from the pit, and his life from perishing by the sword.
