Let’s explore the parable of the Budding Fig Tree and how it relates to the prophesy of End Times and Christ’s return…
32 “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33 Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. 34 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.
No one knows the day or time.
36 “But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
Oh where to begin. While on the Mount of Olives the disciples asked the Lord a two-fold question. Broken down the questions were:
- First, What would happen at the end of time?
- Second, What signs would we be given to know when I Lord returns?
Let’s take a look…
Christ gave clear warnings what to look for when the end is near.
Matthew 24:4-12 – 4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. 5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. 6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows. 9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. 11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. 12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.
Man has been faced with these since the beginning of time. So what’s different now?
The difference is that not all the pieces had come together. One of the most obvious signs to look for is the blooming of the fig tree.
The Budding Fig Tree is the one sign most Theologians have been waiting to see. The Fig Tree is representative of the nation of Israel. The scripture says that it is a sign when its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, in other words Bloom.
If you remember Israel was not a complete nation. Israel has been fighting to regain its right as a nation.
On May 14, 1948, in Tel Aviv, Jewish Agency Chairman David Ben-Gurion proclaims the State of Israel, establishing the first Jewish state in 2,000 years. Ben-Gurion became Israel’s first premier.
Many believe this was the Fig Tree blooming. Jewish people flocked back to their beloved Israel. Because they had been scattered throughout the world.
So In verse 32 it is clear that summer is nigh, He is standing at the door.
Now the question is how long is a generation? It could be any number. The point being His Returning is so close.
